Modern marine canvas work has come a long way from cardboard templates and chalk marks. Today, precision and repeatability are transforming how biminis, dodgers, and full boat enclosures are made — and one of the biggest game changers is the Proliner.

The Proliner is a digital measuring device designed specifically for industries where accuracy matters. Instead of building physical templates, the machine uses a precision arm and probe to capture thousands of exact measurement points directly from the boat. Every curve of the windscreen, every angle of the frame, and every mounting point is digitally mapped to create a perfect 3D template.

For marine canvas fabrication, this means biminis, dodgers, and clears can be designed to fit the boat with incredible accuracy the first time.
Once the boat is digitised, the real advantage begins. The measurements from the Proliner are converted into digital pattern files that can be refined in CAD software. From there, those files can be sent directly to our cutting system from Blackman & White, allowing our Blackman & White laser cutter to cut the material with millimetre-level precision.

This process is particularly powerful when working with premium marine fabrics like Sunbrella. Sunbrella acrylic canvas is renowned for its durability, UV resistance, and colourfast performance in harsh marine environments, but it’s also a material where precise cutting matters. Clean, digitally cut panels ensure seams align perfectly, tension is evenly distributed across the structure, and the finished bimini or enclosure looks sharp and professional.

Digitisation also brings major advantages for the future. Because the boat’s measurements are stored digitally, replacement panels, modifications, or additional covers can be reproduced without starting the templating process from scratch. If a customer later wants side curtains, a storm cover, or replacement sections, the original files are already on record.

The result is a workflow that blends traditional marine craftsmanship with modern technology: precise digital measurement, computer-refined design, and laser-accurate cutting. For boat owners, that means better fitting biminis, cleaner dodgers, tighter enclosures, and marine canvas that performs — and looks — exactly as it should on the water.
