Canvas and Covers Whangarei is a local, family owned and operated business by Brendan and Penny Lockie.

Our focus is on providing great service and creating high-quality custom products, using only materials that we know and trust.

We are located in central Whangarei on Commerce Street, so we are easy to find and within walking distance from the marina and hardstands for any visiting sailors.

Brendan’s lifelong passion for sailing and innovation drives Canvas & Covers’ success. From sailmaking in Auckland to founding the business with his wife Penny, he’s grown it into a leader in marine solutions.

 

Proud sponsor of local sailing, Brendan combines expertise, technology, and vision to deliver outstanding custom projects.

Lynn

Lynn has guided our team for six years, blending international management experience with a background in statistics to keep projects seamless. Passionate about marine living and textiles, she leads production with insight and care.

 

Outside work, Lynn, her husband, and cat Fergus enjoy Northland’s people and outdoor adventures.

Nick

With over 25 years of marine industry experience, Nick is a specialist in custom canvas and clears for all vessel types.

 

A former business owner and seasoned sailor with 50,000 offshore miles, he combines technical expertise with precision CAD and 3D patterning to deliver reliable, high-quality results every time.

ADri

Adri brings four years of expertise to our production and custom canvas teams. Trained in fashion textiles and pattern making, she’s now studying marine trimming with MAST.

 

Known for precision stitch work and detail, Adri crafts durable, custom-fit canvas solutions while balancing family life and a love for Northland’s outdoors.

Sharon joined Canvas and Covers in 2022, bringing creativity, craftsmanship, and people skills. A Textile Fashion Diploma holder, she has a diverse creative background—from sewing and wearable art to beauty therapy and painting.

 

With hospitality experience and a love of the outdoors, Sharon adds warmth and precision to every project.

WEndy

Wendy grew up learning to sew from her father’s role in a Dargaville clothing factory. After studying at NorthTec and running her own sewing business, she joined our Canvas and Covers team in 2025.

 

Skilled, steady, and creative, Wendy brings heart and expertise to everything she does—both in the workshop and beyond.

Jemma

Jemma, our administrator extraordinaire, has been with Canvas and Covers for nearly two years. With a professional background in insurance and experience as a flight attendant, she brings organisation and people skills to the team.

 

Currently on maternity leave, Jemma is busy raising her newest little crew member.

Pelle

Pelle joined Canvas and Covers as a skilled sailmaker and canvas fabricator, bringing decades of global experience.

 

Originally from Sweden, he owned North Sails before moving to New Zealand, later running Doyle Sails in Whangārei. A passionate sailor, his expertise, precision, and attention to detail make him an invaluable part of our team

when not improving her humans lives with her sheer awesomeness, rain is either sleeping or playing!

AMy

Amy joined our team in 2025 after four years’ production experience in the gift industry and a Diploma in Fashion Design and Textiles from Northtec, she brings creative flair and machinist skills.

 

Outside work, she enjoys fishing adventures with her partner and three energetic boys in northland.
